Parcel  delivery　“flying  truck”　in the  works

 

Online shoppers  could soon  be  getting  percels delivered   by  drones landing on rooftops. That’s the idea behind a drone developed by japan‘s　Yamato Holdings　Co．and　Bell Textron  Inc. of the U.S.

The model had its first demonstration flight in the U.S. state of Texas on Monday.

Bell buit the aircraft and Yamato made the cargo pod.

The firms say it can fly as fast as 200 kilometers per hour. It is much faster and more powerful than ordinary drones.

In the test flight, it took off vertically. Then it tilted forward for horizontal flight.

The large drone was carrying several parcels.

“Using this ‘flying truck,’ I think we can create a new bisiness model,” Yamato’s president says.

The autonomous vehicle comes with cameras and sensors to avoid obstacles.

It can land on the rooftops of apartment buildings.It could also deliver supplies in emargencies. The companies say the drone shoud be ready for commercial use in the early 2020s.

 

 

小包配達　「空飛ぶトラック」開発中

 

ネット通販客は近いうちに、屋上に着陸するドローンで空輸された小包を受け、取るようになるかもしれません。それが、日本のヤマトホールデイングス社とアメリカのベル（ヘリコプター）・テキストロン社が開発したドローンの背後にある考え方（コンセプト）です。

このモデルは、アメリカのテキサス州で月曜日に最初のデモ飛行を行いました。

ベルがこの航空機（機体）を製造し、ヤマトが貨物容器を作りました。これらの会社（両社）によると、それは（なんと）最高時速200キロメートルで飛行できます。普通のドローンよりずっと高速で、より強力です。

テスト飛行では、垂直に離陸しました。その後、前方へ（機体を斜めに）傾けたあと水平飛行をしました。この大きなドローンは、複数の小包を運んでいました。

「この空飛ぶトラックを使って、（トラックのように多くの荷物を積んで、空輸する）新しいビジネスモデル（ビジネスの模範的な戦略）がつくられるのではないか」とヤマトの社長は言っています。

この自律的な（自動で目的地まで配達する）運搬手段（ドローン）は、障害物を避けるためのカメラとセンサーを搭載しています。それは集合住宅の屋上に着陸できます。また、（災害など）緊急時には物資を届けることもできるでしょう。両者によると、ドローンは、2020年代の早い時期に商用利用の準備が出来ているはずです。（2020年代の早い時期に実用化することを目ざしています。）
